DocPoint x Yle teema: The Saimaa Gesture -singalong:

DocPoint, in collaboration with Yle Teema present a free singalong screening of the legendary Finnish music documentary The Saimaa Gesture (Saimaa-ilmiö, 1981), directed by Aki and Mika Kaurismäki, in BioRex Lasipalatsi on Wednesday 4 February at 9 pm.

Operating with the sensitivity of a time machine, The Saimaa Gesture (1981) illuminates a slice of 80s Finnish rock life, glowing with Bukowskian drunkenness, romantic posing and irony, conveying an ambiance that is moving, intoxicating, and liberating. It is a snapshot of a time before globalism standardized culture. Between gigs by Juice Leskinen & Slam, Eppu Normaali, and Hassisen Kone, cigarettes are smoked and banter flows. The documentary will be shown on Yle Teema simultaneously with the movie screening

The movie run time is 127 minutes and the age limit is K7 (suitable for 7 years and older).

On Wednesday DocPoint also invites you to a karaoke night held at Semifinal where you can present your own interpretations of classic Finnish rock songs – but feel free to sing other songs as well!

Please note that the film is in Finnish and unfortunately it does not have subtitles.
