Beyond the Frame: Safety, Consent, and Fair Representation in Documentary Practice

Beyond the Frame: Safety, Consent, and Fair Representation in Documentary Practice

This event is part of DocPoint’s Industry programme. Admission is only available to professionals accredited to the festival with an Industry, Guest or Member pass.

This panel explores the ethical issues at the intersection of safety, consent, and fair representation in contemporary documentary filmmaking. As filmmakers gain entry into communities and personal stories, often across cultural or political divides, questions arise about power and responsibility. How can filmmakers and curators balance creative freedom with a duty of care, especially in vulnerable or high-risk situations? The discussion offers a candid look at what ethical and equitable practice means today.

The panelists for the discussion are Jane Mote, Jussi Rastas, Jenni Kivistö, and Murtada Elfadl. The panel is moderated by Iris Olsson.

The event is held in English.
