DOCPOINT X SAVOY THEATRE: FILM AND CONCERT – IVO DIMCHEV
A unique evening awaits in February as DocPoint returns with a bang to the Savoy Theatre. DocPoint and Savoy join forces to bring one of Europe’s most interesting and provocative contemporary artists to Finland. The evening will feature a documentary film and a live concert: an extremely colourful mix of theatre, music, activism, and art.
The evening begins with the Finnish premiere of the new music documentary In Hell With Ivo (2024, dir. Kristina Nikolova). The film offers a captivating portrait of the Bulgarian queer artist and singer-songwriter, Ivo Dimchev, who transforms personal vulnerability and societal difficulties into impactful, provocative art and activism. The documentary film is a powerful testament to the healing power of creativity.
Following the film, Dimchev himself will take the stage with his band. The internationally acclaimed choreographer, performance artist, and singer-songwriter will deliver a concert that combines physical theatre, dark poetry, and a musical fireworks display. Dimchev’s music moves on the borders of blues, art pop, and techno, while his astonishing stage presence oscillates between a rock star and a cabaret prima donna. Balkan roots are also strongly featured in the band’s music.
Come and witness why the New York Times describes Ivo Dimchev as a chameleon who sings about life and death and moves even the most cynical viewer.
”Ivo Dimchev is a a cultural phenomenon.” – BBC Radio
