REGISTRATION FOR DOCPOINT’S NATIONAL COMPETITION IS NOW OPEN

The submission process for the 2027 national competition of DocPoint — Helsinki Documentary Film Festival, Finland’s only festival dedicated to documentary films, is now open. The festival’s national competition will showcase the most significant and exciting Finnish documentary films of the year. In addition, selected films may also be included in the festival’s thematic sections outside of the competition.

Submissions are open from 16th September to 16th October 2026. The next DocPoint — Helsinki Documentary Film Festival will take place from 5rd to 14th February 2027.

Submissions are now open for the 2027 national competition of DocPoint — Helsinki Documentary Film Festival, with registration available until Friday, 16th October 2026.

Up to 10 feature-length documentary films will be selected for the competition from the submitted films. For the third time in 2027, there will also be a competition for national short films. An international jury of documentary industry experts, including those based in Finland, will award prizes at the festival’s closing gala on 13th February 2027 for the best Finnish feature documentary, the best international feature documentary, and the best Finnish short documentary.

“Documentary filmmaking is incredibly diverse today. It can break the boundaries between genres and combine different forms of expression. The spectrum ranges from desktop cinema recorded directly from a computer screen to major international productions with substantial resources and extensive production teams. We want to encourage all filmmakers working with moving images to apply if their work has a documentary foundation or approach. Documentary can be a way of looking at the world, rather than simply a particular form of filmmaking,” says Artistic Director Inka Achté.

Starting from 2024, DocPoint no longer requires national competition films to be premieres. Therefore, films that have already been screened at other national festivals can still be submitted. However, films selected for DocPoint cannot have been shown in national movie theaters or on television.

The next DocPoint festival will take place from 5rd to 14th February 2027. To submit your film to DocPoint — Helsinki Documentary Film Festival 2027, you can find the registration form and detailed rules HERE.
