Zlatan’s Nose

Showtimes

This Swedish film begins in a typical true crime style. Someone has stolen the nose of the statue of Zlatan Ibrahimović, put up in Malmö in 2019. The documentarists Mathias Rosberg, Nils Toftenow and Olle Toftenow are determined to find out who did it.

There are multiple suspects. The world-famous football player Zlatan, a local superstar, bought shares in Hammarby, Malmo FF’s rival team, just months after the statue was erected. Many fans of Malmö FF were angry.

The documentarists decide to hire a private detective, and Claes Ekman is the only one willing to take the job. The energetic 60-year-old approaches football fans with a hidden camera.

Zlatan’s Nose is one of those real-life films that are blessed with coincidences. Ekman turns out to be an excellent protagonist and leaves the statue in his shadow. The filmmakers themselves are surprised by the unexpected direction the documentary takes. Fortunately for the viewer, they decide to keep the camera on Ekman.

Excitement and strong emotions are part of football, which also explains the stolen nose, but Zlatan’s Nose demonstrates that the yearning for excitement and emotions is not limited to sports. The documentary depicts a multifaceted profile of a man who wants something bigger from life.
