My Boyfriend the Fascist
Showtimes
My Boyfriend the Fascist is an intimate portrait of the relationship between Matthias, a left-wing Italian documentary filmmaker, and Sadiel, a fiery and steadfast Cuban activist. Their relationship is shaped by political conflicts that play out on the streets, within institutions, and in their shared bed.
The film explores the contradictions between the political left and right. These are contradictions in a time when traditional divisions no longer hold in today’s political climate, and justice is sought where power is strongest. The documentary also examines distorted beliefs and takes a bold stance on the role of idealism in politics. It portrays politics as a strategic game — as it so often is — and shows how a single goal can take many different forms, and how fascism is difficult to escape within any political ideology.
The documentary further delves into how politics shapes intimate relationships and love. The camera follows the couple like a friend, listening and observing.
