Flying Scents – of Plants and People
Showtimes
The Swiss documentary Flying Scents – of People, Plants and Bumblebees takes viewers deep into the hidden world of plants, a reality largely invisible to human senses. The film is a
warm-hearted and insightful portrayal of plants, the people who work with them, and the fascinating cooperation between plants and insects. Plants surround us wherever we go, but
do we truly understand what they are?
The film follows a research group in a biology laboratory in Zurich as they investigate what makes plants bloom. Meanwhile, the lab’s bumblebees appear to already know the answer. Plants continuously sense their environment, respond to stimuli and threats, and communicate in a language of their own.
Antshi von Moos’s direction offers a captivating and magical glimpse into a world we still know remarkably little about. The camera moves close to the ground, dives into the dense jungle of leaves, explores beneath the soil, and rises to the surfaces of the foliage. The close-ups of insects are delicate, mesmerizing, and full of life. The film also provides a fascinating insight into the processes of scientific research, as the team seeks the answer to the so-called “million-dollar question.” After the film, you’ll see the world in a slightly different way.
