Bedrock

Showtimes

The terrors of the Holocaust and the places in which they took place are already familiar to many through literature and cinema. Bedrock, directed and written by Kinga Michalska, explores what everyday life in these places looks like today.

The film takes place in numerous locations in Poland that were important in one way or another during the Holocaust. The inhabitants of these places continue to live their lives while still processing the collective trauma and terror that was faced by millions of people.

Instead of showing the historical events themselves or educating about them, the film seeks to shed light on their long-term impact. In places marked by the Holocaust, normal everyday life continues as anywhere else, but the grim shadows of history loom over both older and younger generations.

People investigate, show respect, remember, discuss, and make music around these themes – perhaps in an effort to uncover the truth behind the events and their own histories, and to ensure they are not forgotten. Whatever the reason, the past – or the future – cannot be escaped.
